How to Perform CPR - 3 Simple Steps

CPR actually stands for Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is a medical related technique that is widely used in saving lives through some simple yet important steps. This is highly applicable during emergency situations. Drowning and heart attack incidents are the perfect situations where CPR can be used. It is simply because victims in these unfortunate situations may have difficulty in breathing or worse, stop breathing.

The truth is, when performing CPR, it is not as simple as you think it is. It is simply because there are a lot of small details that must be taken into consideration while performing it. One single wrong move will affect the result of doing CPR. This is the main reason why you should be careful and observant. In this regard, the American Heart Association said that CPR should start with chest compressions, no matter if you are a medically trained or not.

Keep in mind that unfortunate situations can happen at any time so you need to be ready to respond. Here are the 3 simple steps that should be performed regarding CPR:

Call Emergency Services

In your day to day life, there is a possibility that you will find yourself in unfortunate situations in which you find unconscious casualties who need your immediate help. In order to help them, you need to check what is happening around you first before approaching the casualties. When you have checked your surroundings and performed that risk judgement, rush to him or her and do some responsiveness tests like shouting. Next you have to check the breathing and the heartbeat. If there are no signs of consciousness, then you need to make a call to the emergency services as fast as you can for some help.

Hands Only CPR

When you have called the emergency services, you should check again to see if there are signs of consciousness like coughing, moving, and breathing. If there are none, then that is the perfect time to do the chest compressions. Just place your hands on the breastbone part and perform the compressions. You have to make sure that your hands are in the proper position and over the correct part of the breast of the casualty. This is important so that your goal of saving the life of that certain person can be achieved.

CPR With Rescue Breaths

If you’ve been trained in CPR, including rescue breaths, and feel confident using your first aid skills, then you should give chest compressions along with rescue breaths. Make sure to lift the chain and pinch his or her nose before putting your mouth to the victim’s mouth and blow steadily, for about one second. Next, check that their chest rises. Give two rescue breaths.  You should then continue with cycles of 30 chest compressions and two rescue breaths until they begin to recover or emergency help arrives.

These are the 3 simple steps that you can follow for CPR to help save someone’s life.
